Our children are our future. As a community, it is imperative that we dramatically improve the quality of our education system. Education holds the keys to decreasing poverty while unleashing our limitless potential. We need to take action to ensure that Utah’s education system is the best in the world.

#1 Make Classroom Sizes Smaller
Salt Lake County is growing. As our population increases, so does the amount of kids in our classrooms. Data shows that students learn best when they receive individualized attention from their teacher. The smaller the classroom size, the more our children are able to learn. We can look at offering more classes online to individualize education. We must ensure that we have enough schools in Salt Lake County for our growing population. When we plan for new housing developments, we must ensure that there are enough schools nearby to educate the children who will be living in those homes. If we don’t, we can expect educational outcomes to fall year after year.

#2 Improve the Quality of Education
It must be our mission to ensure that all children have access to quality education and are empowered to find their passion. Each child is unique. Each child learns differently. If you think back to your time in school you can likely think of something the teachers could have done differently that would have helped you to understand a subject that you struggled with. We must find ways to innovate in our education system to help students learn while integrating the latest technology. Our goal should be to have each child graduate ready to achieve financial independence and live a life of fulfillment.

#3 Increase Teacher Pay
Utah schools must have the best teachers in the world. We should increase teacher pay to attract the top tier teachers to instruct our children right here in Utah. Our teachers have a difficult job, and they deserve our appreciation. We need to make sure that our incentive structure keeps that best teaching doing what they do best, teaching our kids.
