Campaign Finance

Big money chills our democratic process and distorts our electoral system. Policy makers are incentivized to listen to their campaign donors over the needs of voters. We need to fight to reduce the influence of special interests in our government. This is a pernicious issue that plagues our democracy and we need to find solutions.

To start, I am proposing a tax credit for campaign donations under $200 to incentivize small dollar donations. The more that the grassroots is engaged with politicians campaigns, the more they will be forced to listen to the grassroots. Politicians shouldn’t be dependent on large corporations and mega donors to fund their campaigns. Average voters should be able to hold elected officials accountable.

Campaigns should be powered by the people, not special interests. I plan to implement this change in my first year as Mayor.
